Club Captains Report

Its hard to believe two months have passed since the turn of the century and twelve months since the Mini Owners Club was formed. And isn’t it great to see the members enjoying the activities the committee organised during the past twelve months.

Our Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday February 8 and was attended by over 80 members. This would make it the largest meeting I have ever attended in the history of any car club. If we keep growing at the current rate we may need to hire the Brisbane Convention Centre for our meetings. The executive positions were filled without any opposition and I would like to congratulate John Heselwood (President), David McGregor (Vice President), Brian Carmichael (Secretary) and Bob Ward (Treasurer). I am positive that they will all be given 100% support during the next year. I would also like to thank the outgoing executive, Glen Carpenter, Darryl Osborne, Mark Paget and Richard Marchant for the great work they have done in the inaugural task of setting up the club in 1999.

I am pleased to see so many members and family attend the Suttons Beach breakfast and run to Maleny. Must have been a great day with over 40 cars enjoying the tour of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland led by Kev Baker in his Morris Minor. I heard whispers that it was just like me leading the run as the Morrie travelled at about the same speed. Only kidding Kev, and thanks for the tour. I was not able to make the day as I had business to attend in Sydney, but I hear President John looked after you in the way that you have come used to.

Don’t forget our 1st year anniversary celebrations of the Mini Owners Club will be held on Tuesday 14th March at Brisbane BMW. The night will start at 6.30 with a BBQ followed by the MGM and our guest speaker will be Shawn Ticehurst, BMW’s person involved in bringing the new Mini into Australia in 2001. Hope you can all attend on this special night.

The Moogerah Dam Ski Weekend is shaping to be a fun weekend, so if are still thinking about it, check the info page in the magazine for more details and give myself or David a call. Another first for the club is the MOC Golf Day on April 2nd. We have reserved space for 30 golfers, so if you enjoy a serious game or just a hit and giggle check out the info page on the day also in this mag.

Another event not to miss is the Night Navigation Run on the 25th February. Don’t be frightened of getting lost, it’s a lot of good fun and as always a BBQ will follow at ???. See you there.
