The “Humpy” certainly meet the “Brick” at our first combined car club fun day run. Our club joined with the FX-FJ Holden Club with a very successful observation run from Garden City to Tamborine Village (Bearded Dragon Hotel) and then on to Cleveland for a great BBQ lunch at G.J. Walter Park. Twenty five Holdens joined with 35 Minis, one of which was from the FX-FJ Club, (hope to join him up soon) as the convoy wound its way out of the garden City car park. In the rush to get going, most did not read the instructions and turned right instead of left and caused a traffic jam at the Logan Road lights. The more observant drivers who did turn left had a non stop run to the morning tea stop at “The Bearded Dragon”. A great sight it was in the car park with such a display of two of the world’s motoring icons. After the tea and coffee (rum & coke for some) break, it was off to Cleveland via the back roads to Beenleigh, on to the Gold Coast Motorway and through the scenic roads at the back of Mt Cotton. The day was an observation run, and if you were wondering what the price of Paws Paws was, it was a \$1.00. Well! It was when I did the run a couple of days earlier. I was not planning on the fruit stall to sell out of them on the Saturday and take the sign down. But it was all in good fun, although I have heard that a few couples were filing for divorce!! For the record, the winners of the observation run was Dave Perkins and Allison Yates from our club. We also had trophy for the Holden drivers favourite Mini and the Mini drivers favourite Holden. The winning cars were Scott Chambers FJ Holden Ute and John & Gayle Heselwood’s Cooper S. The BBQ lunch was put on by the Holden club and I must say that their “chuck wagon” was the envy of our members. If only we could tow it!! Their members did a great job with the cooking and serving and it showed that they have had plenty of practice. Thanks to Dave Chambers and his members for the great day. |
