Presidents Report

All we need is the perfect Queensland winter weather we are accustomed to and the Mini 2000 will be another day to remember. The day is certainly shaping up as being a BIG one. The inquiries have come in from all over the country as a result of the press coverage. Mini owners are coming from Melbourne, Sydney, Tamworth and Rockhampton to name a few.

An event like the Mini 2000 doesn’t just happen, it requires a lot of work and effort. Your committee has done an excellent job getting the event to where it is at the moment. To finish the job, we need your help. I do not expect all of the members to have to work all day and not be able to enjoy themselves, but if each and every one of you put in a HALF hour on the day we all can enjoy ourselves and take part in all of the activities. We will be drawing up the roster at the special Mini 2000 meeting on Tuesday June 6. I know that I can count on you, the members, to make the Mini 2000 the best Mini event in Australia.

I am pleased to announce that the club is now a member of CAMS. This means that the club can now run motorsport events such as the Mini Sprint and Motorkhana at the Mini 2000. Glen Carpenter will be the club’s motor sport coordinator, assisted by Rob Watson. The other bonus from joining Cams is that we now have public liability cover of \$100 million.

A problem the club continues to have, is finding someone to transport the BBQ and drinks eskies on our day runs. As you know you can’t fit a lot in the boot of a brick. The committee has come up with an idea of looking for a Mini Van and starting a restoration project. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who might have one they no longer want or know someone that has. If you know someone who would like to donate one to the club I would be even more happy to hear from them.

The Mini Pro Family Fun Day was well attended by our club and it was great to see so many there to give Gary support. I think that it is important for us to support those who support the club. As you will see in this edition we have three new advertisers, Quick Fit Tyres, Matt Read & Ted Vokes Car Sound and I ask all members to support all the businesses who advertise in The Mini Mag. Without them we can not afford to produce a magazine of this current standard.

See you all at the next meeting or at the Mini 2000 at Lakeside.

John Heselwood.
