Club Captains Report

The weather was perfect and the public turned out in force for “The All British Car Club 2000” day. Fifty five of our members Minis made up our display which made it the best attended by any car club in the events history.

The Mini Owners Club was awarded the trophy for the “Best Club Display”, our first for the club and hopefully the first of many. It was an honour for President John and myself to go up on stage to receive the awards.

In conjunction with our display we staged a “show-n-shine” with a difference. Congratulations to all the trophy winners, it was just great to see so many of the members getting involved and dressing up their cars for this great event. One stand-out of the day was the display by Ian & Glynis Leis who dressed up their Mini Cooper in the 60’s surfing theme. Great work! Congratulations also to all the members who attended throughout the day and many thanks to those who arrived early to help with the set-up of the display. It was truly a great effort!

I will be away for the next month having a well earned holiday touring around the U.K. and Europe. I am hoping to attend the Mini Marque Day at the Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon, near Birmingham. You never know, I might even get a chance to have a sneak preview at the New Mini. I also hope to be able to e-mail my report for next months mag in between picking up a few Mini bits and other Mini memorabilia along the way.

I hope you all had a great day at the second annual “MOC Kart Derby” and day run to Harrisville. I heard that it was a very exciting day again with the “older” members showing the “younger” that they still like to drive hard and take things seriously. Some just never grow up, do they? Unfortunately I was unable to attend due to other commitments, so I look forward to seeing the action in the photos.

Our first Driver Training Day is being held on 22nd October and I hope as many of you as possible will attend to support the day which is being organised by Glen Carpenter and his merry men. This will be a great opportunity to test you skills and learn some new ones.

See you all at the November meeting.

Your Club Captain
Tony.
